Each year, Scottish Women's Aid conduct a survey to find out how many people contact Women's Aid services seeking support.
The Census reveals that on one day in Scotland...
- 66 women and 20 children contacted Women's Aid for the very first time.
- 366 women and 351 children and young people were living in a Women's Aid refuge.
- 943 women and 358 children were supported by a Women's Aid group.
- 24 women (and their 22 children) requested refuge. 46% of the women needing refuge were unable to be accommodated due to lack of safe or suitable space. Three women had to remain at home with the abusive partner.
Women who contacted the services were most likely to have heard about Women's Aid from friends, family, social media and advertisements.
